Today Samie Sands takes over my website with a spotlight on the novel: Lockdown.

Leah's practical joke has spiraled way out of control. Now everyone seems convinced that the apocalypse is coming - in the form of zombies. The government is calling the virus AM13, and is advising – or more like forcing - everyone to stay indoors while they 'clean up the mess'. Leah tries to persuade everyone that it was all just a horrible mistake, however she starts to see there may be more truth to it all than she first thought...

Imagine the scariest theme park possible.  Is it filled with the scariest monsters ever imagined?  Is it filled with ghosts or demons ready to possess anybody who dare enters?  Or is it filled with ghouls with hunger for human flesh?

Author Mark Cusco Ailes thought about every possible creature before deciding on using zombies when he was outlining his post-apocalyptic series revolving around a theme park...The Z-Day Series.

Zombie Park is the first morsel in the five novel series.  Inspired by the movie Jurassic Park, the novel is about a man, Ben Cutler, who wanted to build a zombie park where people could witness real zombies in a safe environment similar to a real zoo.  To his surprise, one of the richest men in Indiana backs the project and makes him an instant millionaire.  Unbeknownst to him, the military is using the park to develop zombie soldiers to use against the enemies of the United States.  Will the zombie soldiers be an effective killing force?  What happens if the zombies escape the park?  Will the United States and the whole world survive a zombie apocalypse?

Zombie Park is now FREE on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited from October 2 through October 5.

The Undead Pool Ranks The Best Jokers of BATMAN

Hey,

This is Mace Murdock, A.K.A. The Undead Pool.  I spent most of my existence battling one supervillain after another.  I know when I’m up against the best of the best and the worst of the worst.  In the brand spanking new novel The Undead Pool, I battle Zarathustra (cross between the Joker and Sinister), and Crump (Donald Trump as an orangutan).   Am I successful?  Who knows?  I could have been killed and my ghost is writing this blog.

Where was I?  Oh yeah, the best of the best supervillains?  Now asking someone at a comic book shop who the greatest supervillain is could lead to one of the biggest fights in history.  Trust me.  I know.  There are a few less comic book shops in the world because of that debate.  It is as dangerous a question as asking which is better: Marvel or DC?  We know Marvel reigns supreme when it comes to their Cinematic Universe.  Now for comic books that answer will be different depending on which nerd you ask.

Today, I’m focusing on one supervillain.  Yes, the Joker.  There have been many versions of the Joker since the dawn of time with several different incredible actors playing them.  Cesar Romero played one of the most comical versions of the Joker.  Heath Ledger took the character to the darkest realm possible.  Mark Hamill voiced one of the most demented and comically versions.  His jokes do kill.  Yes, that was a pun on The Killing Joke.  Jack Nicholson portrayed a combination of all versions of the Joker.

Which one was the best?  I love each one of them, but Heath Ledger was the most impressive Joker of them all.  Yes, I’m saying he’s my favorite.  Cesar Romero would be my second favorite followed by Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson in dead last.

You’re probably wondering why I didn’t add Jared Leto to the list.  I haven’t had to battle that version in person…yet.  Plus, a majority of his scenes from Suicide Squad ended up on the cutting room floor.  We didn’t get to see all his demented madness in its full glory.
One day, we will and then I’ll place him where he belongs…Arkham Asylum.

The Undead Pool Villain Crump is Donald Trump

The Undead Pool is my latest novel and is a spoof on all the superhero comics and movies from the past several decades.  One of the main supervillains in the novel is named Crump, an orangutan wearing a blue business suit.  Crump is Donald Trump.

Back in 2003, Bill Maher made the joke, for the first time, that Donald Trump was a product of his mother having sex with an orangutan.

"I hope it's not true, but unless he comes up with proof ... I'm willing to offer $5 million to Donald Trump that he can donate to a charity of his choice -- Hair Club for Men; The Institute for Incorrigible Douche-bag-ery. Whatever charity,” Bill Maher told Jay Leno on the Tonight Show.

Donald Trump turned around and sued Bill Maher making a funny bit turn into a national debate over if Donald Trump was in fact a product of his mother and an orangutan.

Picture
What if Donald Trump was killed and his brain then transplanted into an orangutan?  The supervillain Crump was born.  While the Undead Pool is preoccupied battling Zarathustra, Crump drops a large dome over the United States separating it from Mexico and Canada. Yes, the America people have to pay for it.

Here’s an excerpt from the Undead Pool:

“Well, well,” Crump said as he entered the room clapping his hands.  “Nobody knows more about capturing superheroes than Crump.”

“Crump, I’m the superhero and superheroes always win,” Mace explained.

“Do they now?  You three are prisoners, and I’m here on the other side of the bars all safe from you,” Crump said while holding one of his left fingers upward as he spoke. “Believe me.  You three pose no threat to me. I can’t wait to tweet to my followers how easy it was to capture you.”

I had a lot of fun writing the scenes with Crump.  The story shows some of the dangers of having Donald Trump as president.  People are going to love this novel.  Well, maybe not the Trump supporters.  It will only be a matter of time before Donald Trump sues me for my portrayal of Crump in the Undead Pool.

Here’s the official The Undead Pool blurb:

The Undead Pool – Behind the Scenes  Deadpool, X-men, and the Suicide Squad

Picture
The Undead Pool is a spoof on the Marvel and DC superhero comic book and film universes by Derek Ailes.  The first book simply entitled The Undead Pool will be released in a few weeks. Welcome to the first behind the scenes on writing the first novel.

Several months ago, after reading a graphic novel spoofing all the major science fiction and horror franchises, which was sponsored by Rifftrax.com, the idea popped in my head about creating a whole cinematic universe spoofing all the comic book characters I grew up idolizing.  Deadpool was dominating the box office and the first couple of trailers of Batman vs. Superman had just debut on the internet.  I wanted to do a series that not only made fun of, but also, celebrated every comic book character created by DC and Marvel.  Being a huge fan of Deadpool, I knew that the main character had to be based on him.  I thought a character that was a parody of a comic book character that already was a parody of another comic book character would be pure gold.   I thought what if he was a superhero that became a zombie and was brought back from the darkness.  I’m a very sarcastic individual and knew I could bring the character to life.  I never had as much fun writing as I did writing dialogue for Mace Murdock, A.K.A.  The Undead Pool.

The next task was to pick which characters I wanted in the first book.  I wanted to stay away from the obvious characters like Superman and Batman.  Since there are so many inconsistencies between each of the X-men movies, I thought spoofing X-men would be the perfect place to start.  There had to be a parody of Wolverine.  Tigernaut was born.  I wanted to have a similar origin story as Wolverine, but in a comedic way.  There is also a parody of Professor X; Professor Zagar.  Deadpool has a long history with Cable and I created Stable, a metallic horse-like creature, to fill that role.  Stable, like Cable, has the ability to travel through time.

Before I began writing the novel, I mapped out all the scenes I wanted to parody.  Combing through several Deadpool graphic novels, watching hundreds of hours of Marvel and DC animations and all the cinematic movies, reading as much of the history of both franchises and playing the Deadpool video game, I came up with the best scenes to parody.  The first scene in the novel is a direct parody of the beginning of the Deadpool movie.  There are several scenes that were parodies from the Deadpool video game.

Every comic book series has to have a strong super-villain.  Zarathustra, a parody of both Sinister and The Joker, is the perfect villain for the Undead Pool.  Stable and the Undead Pool must battle him in the present and in the past.  Zarathustra is responsible for transforming Mace Murdock into the Undead Pool.  He is the yin to Mace’s yang.

Like Deadpool, the Undead Pool is filled with cultural references and strange humor which will keep the reader entertained from start to finish.  Unless you’ve been living under a rock the past few decades, you’ll recognize a majority of the movies and television shows I’m parodying.  There are some references that only the diehard comic book fans will recognize and others, everybody will. It doesn’t matter if you’re a diehard comic fan or a casual one, you will enjoy the book.

Mark Cusco Ailes discusses Zombie Park, The Walking DEad & plague of the living dead

3/13/2016

Picture
2015 began the journey of Mark Cusco Ailes in the zombie horror genre.  When he came up with the concept of taking the book Jurassic Park and replacing the dinosaurs with zombies, he had no idea how much the fan reaction would be.  Zombie Park was an instant success and he began writing the sequel "Z-Day: The Day of the Zombies".  His editor, along with the first couple of beta readers, instantly fell in horror (I hate to say in  love) with Zombie Park and its take on the zombie apocalypse.  A lot of times a sequel can't match the momentum and popularity of the original, but fans have stated that Z-Day: Day of the Zombies blows Zombie Park away with its intense action and storytelling.

Plague of the Living Dead, the third adventure in the Z-Day Trilogy, takes the zombie apocalypse beyond Zombie Park as the zombie plague takes over the whole United States.

Mark grew up a fan of John Russo and George Romero.  With the inspiration of all the zombie films he watched since his teenage years, he created his vision of the ultimate zombie experience with Zombie Park.

I recently sat down and talked with Mark about the popularity of his zombie series.

Mark: "The Walking Dead brought life back into the zombie genre, and I always thought Jurassic Park made a great premise for the start of a zombie apocalypse.  Not even in my wildest fantasies could I ever imagine that my zombie series, originally a trilogy, would have such an impact with my fans.  I just finished writing the prequel "Creation of the Living Dead" and am writing Zombie World.  Yes, the zombie plague has now gone global.  Just as the Walking Dead's popularity will continue on for decades to come, so will Zombie Park."

Picture
After "Zombie World", Mark and I will write "AVZ: Aliens vs. Zombies" which will be released later this year.

Mark:  "I started my career writing fantasy.  I began writing horror short stories with my brother and now I am one the main writers in the zombie genre.  I have no immediate plans to return to the fantasy genre.  I have over twenty outlines for horror novels sitting on my desk; four of them about zombies.  2016 will be the greatest year for the Ailes Brothers of Terror.  Each passing week, our sales and popularity continue to climb.  One day, Zombie Park will be one of the most successful fiction and motion picture franchises of all time."

Cary stared at Audrey as she slept.  Her long blonde hair draped over her fair pale skin.  Her eyes opened as she realized that he was watching her sleep.
“Good morning,” Cary said.
“Good morning, my love.  Couldn’t find anything else interesting to stare at?”
“Nothing as beautiful as you,” he said.
“You are a complete sap,” she said with a laugh.
“You made me this way,” he said as he went into the bathroom.
“I’ll take that as a compliment,” she said as she tied her hair into a ponytail.
“Audrey, do you know where my meds went to?”
“Which ones?”
“The important ones.  The ones for my condition.”
“Didn’t you stop taking them because they were making your hands twitch nervously?”  Audrey asked.
“I did?  They must be affecting my memory, too.”
“I think they were.  You promised me you wouldn’t take them anymore,” Audrey said.
“I don’t want to have any episodes, especially since I have the presentation at work coming up.”
“Your meds turn you into a mindless drone.  I hate it when you are on them.”
“Audrey, do you want me to start hearing voices again?  Seeing things that aren’t there?”
“No.”
“Schizophrenia isn’t something I can just turn off you know.”
“Do you have to go to work today?  I get lonely here all by myself,” Audrey said as she changed into a red dress with white flowers.
“Can’t make money if I stay home,” he shouted as he turned the shower on.
Audrey sat down on the bed and stared at the bathroom door.  She felt guilty.  She was the one that had gotten rid of his meds.  He was a more passionate person when he wasn’t on them.  On them, he was as passionate as a statue.  She walked over to her bookcase and grabbed a stack of paranormal romance novels.  They would have to keep her occupied while Cary was at work.

Cary sat in his cubicle at work shifting through the papers on his desk.  His presentation to the board of directors was coming up in a few minutes.  Gregory, his colleague sitting in the cubicle next to his, walked over to him.
“Are you all set for the presentation?”  Gregory asked.
“I’m as prepared as I’m going to be.  If the board likes the presentation, I can use the marketing for our clients.”
“I was wondering if you and Audrey would like to have dinner sometime with me and Katherine,” Gregory asked.
“You know Audrey doesn’t like to leave the house because of her agoraphobia,” Cary said.
“What a shame.  I would really like to meet her.  You don’t even have any pictures of her,” Gregory said.
“She won’t let me take any pictures of her,” Cary said.  “I got to go.”
“Good luck.”
“Thanks.”

Audrey put her novel down as Cary walked into the house.  “How did it go?”
“They liked the presentation.  If everything works out with the clients, there could be a promotion in my future.”
“That’s great news honey.”
“Finished another novel today?”
“You’ll probably have to go to the bookstore and buy me some more romance novels to read this weekend,” Audrey said.
“You do read a lot.”
“It’s better than watching television.  I can’t stand all those court shows they show constantly during the day,” Audrey said.
“They’re staged,” Cary said.
“Exactly,” Audrey said with a small laugh.
“Gregory wants us to go out to dinner with him and his wife,” Cary said as he took off his blue tie.
She stared at the front door for a minute and then looked at him.  “I don’t think that’s a good idea.  I don’t like the outside.”
“You can’t stay locked away out of sight forever.”
“Sure I can.  I have you to bring me everything I need.”
“Aren’t you curious about the world?”  Cary asked.
“I remember back when I was forced to go outside.  I didn’t like what I saw.  I’d rather explore the world via the internet and my books.”
“I guess I’ll never be able to convince you.”
“Never,” she said and stared at the door again.
“I guess a celebratory dinner is out of the question?”
Audrey jumped off the couch and gave him a big hug.  “We can order a pizza to celebrate.”
“Ok, pizza it is,” Cary said and grabbed his cellphone.
Later on that night, Audrey was in bed reading a book while Cary was in the bathroom.  She could hear him in there talking to himself, carrying on a long conversation.  She looked over at their nightstand and his cellphone was sitting on top.
“Honey, who are you talking to?”
No response.
“Cary, is everything ok?”
The door to the bathroom opened and Cary stood there in his green bathrobe with a confused look on his face.
“Cary, you look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Audrey said concerned.
He looked at her in a complete daze.  After a few minutes, he managed to say, “I was talking to you.  You were taking a shower.  How did you get out here?”
“I was here the whole time reading my book.”
“Then who is in there taking a shower right now?”
Audrey got up from the bed and walked into the shower.  “The shower is off.  There’s nobody in there.”
“I need my meds.  Where are my meds?”  Cary asked almost in a panic.  He quickly opened the nightstand drawers and threw everything inside onto the floor.
“They’re not there,” Audrey said.
“She threw them out,” an elderly woman wearing a faded blue nightgown said.
“Mom, what are you doing here?  You’re dead.”
“Am I, sweetie.  I told you not to hook up with her.  She’s the worst of the worst.  You’re not mentally sane enough to see her for what she really is.”
“I love her mother,” Cary said.
“Cary, your mother isn’t here. It’s just you and me,” Audrey said.
“She’s standing right here,” Cary said looking at Audrey.  When he turned around, his mother was gone.  He stared at the spot where she had been standing for several minutes, hoping that she would reappear.
“Maybe you need to get some sleep.  Let your mind reset,” Audrey said.
“Maybe you’re right.  Today was a very exciting day.  My mind is just tired.  That’s it. Tired,” he said, trying to convince himself that he didn’t just see his dead mother right before his eyes.
“Sleep, my dear, sleep,” Audrey said softly into his right ear.  “You just need some sleep.  Come lie next to me and sleep.”
“Sleep. Not a bad idea,” Cary said and slowly got into the bed.  “That’s all I need.”
That morning Cary awoke.  His mind was a lot clearer.  He climbed out of bed and headed for the kitchen to fry himself some bacon.  Sitting at the kitchen table was his mother.
“Mom, what are you doing here?”  Cary asked.
“Can’t an old woman spend some quality time with her son?”
“Not when she’s dead.”
“If you’re seeing me, I must not be dead.”
“Keep it down.  I don’t want to wake up Audrey,” Cary said, sitting down next to her.
“You do know she threw away your meds,” she said.
“Why would she do that?”
“She thinks she’s helping you, protecting you.”
“From what?”
“That’s the question, my son.”
“She would never harm me.”
“You know you need those meds.  You are seeing people that aren’t really there.  Take me for instance.  I’m worm food and you’re having an intimate one-on-one conversation with me,” his mom said, laughing.
“Honey, who are you talking to?”  Audrey asked as she walked into the kitchen.  “Your mother again?  Hello Judith.”
“I’ve never liked her,” Judith said.
“You’ve never really met,” Cary said.
“Are you sure?”  Judith asked.
“What do you mean?”  Cary asked.
“I’m right here,” Audrey said, clearing her throat.
“Sorry, we didn’t mean…” Cary started to say.
Judith was no longer sitting at the table.
“I have to get going,” Cary said quickly standing up.
“Go where.  Today’s your day off.”
“I have to go to the pharmacy and get my meds,” Cary said.
“Wait, please don’t go,” Audrey pleaded.
“I’m seeing people that aren’t there and it’s getting worse,” Cary said, his hands shaking.
“Look at your hands!  They are shaking violently! You are in no physical condition to get behind the wheel!”
“Don’t listen to her, son.  She’s tricking you,” an old man wearing faded denim overalls said.
“Dad,” Cary said as tears streamed down his cheeks.
“Listen to your father,” his mother said.
“Make it stop!  Make it stop!”  Cary screamed.  He put his hands over his ears, trying to make the voices of his parents stop.  He ran for the bedroom to get his keys.
“Cary, don’t go.  You’re in no condition to drive,” Audrey pleaded.
“Son, don’t listen to her.  She’s tricking you,” his mother said.
He grabbed his keys and headed for the front door.  Audrey stood in front of the door.
“Please, get out of my way.”
“No, my love.  I can’t let you go,” Audrey said, tears forming in her eyes.
He pushed her out of the way and walked out of the house.  She stared at the opened door.  She slowly walked toward it.  The outside air felt heavy on her chest.  She took a deep breath and did something she thought she could never do; she walked outside.  She ran toward Cary’s car and pounded on the window.  He looked at her in shock.  He unlocked the passenger door, and she quickly got in.
“You’re outside the house,” he said in shock.
“If you have to go get your meds, then I’m coming with you,” Audrey said.
With trembling hands, he turned the key.

Cary snapped awake.  He looked around him.  His car was sideways on the highway with a semi-truck pulled over to the side.  His car was badly damaged and an ambulance was parked to the side.  Paramedics were attending to somebody on the street.  He ran over to the paramedics.  Audrey was in trouble.  He didn’t remember getting into a wreck.  He didn’t remember anything after leaving his house this morning.  As he reached the paramedics, he stood in shock as he stared at the body lying in a pool of blood.  The body wasn’t Audrey’s; it was his.
“Joan, stop.  He lost too much blood.  He’s dead,” the other paramedic said.
“What the hell,” Cary said in shock.
“I tried to tell you that you weren’t in any condition to drive,” Audrey said.
“I killed us both,” Cary said.
“Not exactly true,” Audrey said.
He looked at her.
“You killed yourself.  I’ve been dead for over a hundred years.”
“What?”
“I’ve been dead for over a hundred years.  You were the first person that could see me, interact with me.  I was haunting that bookstore for years, taking books to read.  You walked right past me and said…”
“That’s an excellent book,” Cary finished.
“When I asked can you see me?”
“I said how can somebody not see someone as beautiful as you,” he finished.
“The rest is history.  That’s the reason I threw out your meds.  When you were taking them, you couldn’t see me anymore.  I didn’t want to lose the love of my life again.”
“Now that I’m dead, now what?”
“We can be together forever. I am no longer bound to that prison we called a home.  We can go anywhere together,” Audrey said and took his hands in hers.
“Anywhere?”  Cary asked.
“Lead the way,” Audrey said as they walked away from the crash site holding hands.

The 5th Wave, Star Wars and the Day The Earth Cried by Mark Cusco Ailes

Mark Cusco Ailes & I are going to see the 5th Wave today based off the book by Rick Yancey.  Will it be the number one movie of January? Will it dethrone Stars Wars spot as the top science fiction movie?  I grew up, like most nerds, an insanely crazy fan of Star Wars.  Hell, I became a writer so I can write science fiction stories as awesome as Star Wars.  I confess, I never heard of the 5th Wave novel before seeing the trailer for the movie starring Hit-Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz).  I fear that this science fiction masterpiece will be defeated by Star Wars as easily as Rae and Finn defeated Kylo Ren.   Congratulations for Star Wars becoming the highest grossing movie of all time in the US and soon on the whole planet Earth. The 5th Wave is getting great reviews from fans.  I'm sure it will be as great as Star Wars.

2016 is the year of alien invasion movies.  Besides the 5th Wave, we have Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (yes, Superman is an alien) and Independence Day 2.  This the perfect year to promote The Day The Earth Cried by my brother Mark Cusco Ailes (author of Zombie Park).

When my brother was stationed in Germany, he had a chance to be an extra in the movie Moon 44 directed by Roland Emmerich which starred Dean Devlin. Mark hung out with some of the cast and had a chance to talk with Dean.  They discuss different story ideas and even talked about an alien invasion movie.  Dean went on to co-write Independence Day with Roland Emmerich and my brother wrote The Day The Earth Cried.

The Day The Earth Cried was originally published on April 25, 2013, months before the 5th Wave, after years of creating the perfect alien invasion novel.  It is one of the best, on the edge of your seat, alien invasion novels I have ever read.  It is now available on Kindle and Kindle Unlimited.  You can download it here: http://bit.ly/1ksEO4f

Here’s the blurb from Amazon:

The Generals assemble. Project Red Beam starts. This is THE DAY THE EARTH CRIED!

An alien spaceship destroys the International Space Station and UFOs fill the sky all over the world. Project Red Beam is activated but no one can predict what will happen—there’s never been an alien threat in the history of the United States.

The spaceships continue to hover, taking no action. Tension escalates and the world goes crazy. Crime runs rampant. In the midst of the chaos, the aliens attack. Their weapons? Deadly robot fighting machines!

President Jon Reardon watches helplessly as his nation is slaughtered. When his dear friend, Dr. Eggers, is killed, President Reardon’s anguish turns to vengeance--we are the United States of America and no weapon formed against can win!

Herbert Jackson can’t believe his country, his city, his world is being attacked by aliens. The destruction is devastating and his rage knows no bounds. He will not give up, he’ll fight them to his last breath!

Dr. Eileen Hayes is in relationship hell with her fiancé, Danny. After dealing with his cheating and betrayals, she’s more than ready for any aliens—too bad the aliens hadn’t come to rid her of Danny!

As the battle wages, it’s clear the world is no match for the silent, rampaging robots. But how could anyone know the robots were the least of the alien problem? An attack more insidious, more horrifying is about to make the world discover what it’s really made of!
Mark Cusco Ailes, author of Zombie Park, presents his science fiction masterpiece in the tradition of Independence Day, The War of the Worlds and the 5th Wave.

Here’s one of the reviews:

Aliens attack! The human race must defend themselves against the alien invasion. For those who live in Indiana (like myself) I really enjoyed how a lot of the scenes take place in Northwest Indiana and in Chicago. The story is intense with characters you embrace and cheer for. Will the human race survive? Read it and find out.

Download it now for 2.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited: http://bit.ly/1ksEO4f

I hope everybody gives my brother’s book a read.  Also, go see the 5th Wave and help it break out of the shadow of Star Wars.

Until next time,

Derek Ailes (co-author of Catfurnado: Oh Meow No!, Zombies and Psychotic Women)

Days of the Dead Chicago was a blast this year.  Mark Cusco Ailes and I had a chance to hang out with several celebrities including: Elvira, Bret “Hitman” Hart, Chyna, Ace Frehley, Felissa Rose, Tara Reid and many more.  We also made a lot of connections which will further our writing career as we continue with releasing one new horror novel after another.

The book touring season has ended for the Ailes Brothers of Terror.  Last weekend Mark Cusco Ailes and I had one of our best outings this year selling out of Zombie Park and Handful of Raindrops.  Zombie Park is Mark’s most successful novel to date and next year book two and three will be released.

The Ailes Brothers of Terror are proud to announce the first issue of their new horror anthology series: Ailes Brothers of Terror. January the first issue will be released called: Catfurnado 2: Oh Meow No!, Zombies and Psychotic Women. There will be a new anthology released every two to three months and will include new horror short stories by Derek Ailes & Mark Cusco Ailes. Each issue will be between 100 to 150 pages. Issue one will include the stories: Catfurnado 2: Oh Meow No!, Second Chances, Psychotic Break, Alone In the Dark, Mittens, Padded Cell, Zombies Aisle Five & Hard Times For Saint Nick. This is the official book cover for issue one designed by Derek Ailes with artwork from some amazing artists. The plan is to release five to six of them next year.

I hope everybody continues their journey with us and we hope to see all of you sometime on our 2016 Z-Day Trilogy tour.

Until next time,
Stay Scared
