The first page of my latest short story.
“Earth. Wasteland. Humans on the near extinction list. What was once a flourishing race, replaced by a plague of brain eating, zombies. The Zombie Apocalypse of 2014 was what they called it. Nobody knows what had caused the zombie plague, but it happened fast; almost overnight. Friends killing friends, brothers killing brothers; the Civil War, but with zombies. Woman, children; it didn’t matter. Nobody was immune to the zombie plague. A few survivors here and there, but cities and towns turned to ruins. Only one giant compound survived the zombie plague. Built almost in a month by the government around Washington DC, the compound housed the remaining remnants of the old world. Hundreds of guards on top of the walls killing zombies on sight. A post zombie apocalypse government now ruled what was left of the human race. A counsel was put in charge of protecting the remaining survivors of the United States. Every day, their scientists work on a cure while others develop new ways of defending everybody from the constant attacks by the zombies trying to penetrate the walls around Washington, DC.
My name is Devlin and I am a Zombie Hunter.”
Just finished with, hopefully, the final edits of Journey Into The Unknown. The flow of the stories are much better. This is a compilation of some of my best short stories. Now I can continue to focus on developing awesome horror stories for my next project: Zombie Command: Demon's Unleashed. I have enough story outlines to fill several horror short story collections.
Mark Cusco Ailes is currently working on the third Ray Cycle adventure. When that's done, he'll be writing short stories here and there for our October 2014 collaboration. If you haven't read any of his stories check out Bunga, Tashla, and the Day the Earth Cried on paperback and kindle through Amazon.com.
Within a couple weeks, I'll have an advance version of Journey and then it will go to press from there. I'll keep everybody posted on any further news.
I just got back Journey Into the Unknown with tons more edits that need to be done. Reminds me of the old advice for writing: edit, edit, edit and then edit some more. I'm going to start working on the edits tomorrow after watching Under The Dome.
I designed a t-shirt for myself promoting Karena. I love that picture. I just wish I own the rights to use that image. The photo would make a great book cover. After I'm done with the edits, I'm going to work on the next Karena story. The goal is make the next story between forty and sixty pages long. My brother is going to read Zombie Command this week and he'll let me know how I can improve that story. I'm still not a hundred percent satisfied with the ending yet.
Journey Into The Unknown is with the editor for the final edit. I should have it back in a week or so. Once I make whatever necessary changes needed, the book will be prepared for publication. I'm going to hopefully finish "Gargoyle's Curse" tomorrow. Took today off to work on my laptop since my regular computer died for good yesterday. Luckily I use my laptop for almost everything now. My computer was over ten years old. It had a good run. Five Finger Death Punch latest album is called: The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell. That title just sounds so fitting for Karena. That may end up being the title for the next Karena story which is going to be in my 2014 short story compilation: Zombie Command: Demon's Unleashed. I worked on the outline for part of the story today after hearing the song: Wrong Side of Heaven. I will keep everybody posted on any news on Journey Into The Unknown. Thanks everybody for your support.
The book cover for Journey Into the Unknown is here. At 3:00 am on 8-2-13, I finished the current round of edits on the book. My editor will now get to read the latest version of the novel. Pending approval, the project will be finished after one more round of edits. Almost twenty years from graduating high school, class of 1994, my first novel will be in print. I now have something to brag about at my twentieth high school graduation party!
