Yesterday the weather behaved in Chesterton, Indiana and Mark Cusco Ailes and I had another successful book signing. My brother's two novels, One Magic Christmas & The Creator's Game, were the two hits of the book fair. At the next book fair we do in October, we possibly will have The Second Journey Into the Unknown with us. I'm hoping to have the last stories finished this week and the cover should be designed this week. Mark and I are working on a very hectic schedule for 2015. Mark's novel ,Heir to the Throne, will be finished and in print. We have our third horror anthology coming out. We will also be expanding into the Chicago book fair market.
2015 is an historic thirty year anniversary for me in the writing field. If you click on the Day It Rained Candy link on the left of my page, you will see pictures from my first published story from elementary school from 1985. I did get a ribbon for it. When I was going through all my old manuscripts, papers, and my school writing folder, I rediscovered this. My brother pointed out the fact that I wrote a story similar to the premise of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. For The Second Journey Into The Unknown, Mark and I rewrote my 1994 published story Night of the Living Redheads. I'm going to work on writing a whole new story based on my 1985 The Day It Rained Candy. There is so much material that I wrote the past thirty years to fill several short story anthologies.
The short story Zombie Command, from the Zombie Command Antholgy, was written using the original chapter from the unpublished novel Power Command by Mark and I. I tried for a couple years to find a publisher for it, but it got rejected. Looking back, I can't believe I tried to get it published in the form that it was in. The novel was based on my childhood scifi series Power Force and one of Mark's old series. I was planning on rebooting the Power Force series next year, but that is being put on hold for my next project.
My next project is Karena: Anthology of a Teenage Witch. Karena was a short story from the first Journey Into the Unknown by Mark and I. This will be the sequel to that story. The novel will be split into four parts. Part one deals with the past during the Salem Witch Trials. Part two is an updated version of the original Karena story with more scenes and the parts I originally cut out of the story put back in. Part three deals with Karena, her son, and the coven she becomes part of. Part four deals with the aftermath of what happens after the fall of the coven. This is going to be a very epic good vs evil story. Karena is based off a girl that I used to work with. She turned her back on her religious upbringing when she realized she was a witch. Karena is one of my favorite stories I have ever written and I've been wanting to make a full novel out of that story ever since Journey was originally published by Weekland Press. I'm going to start writing it immediately after The Second Journey is completed in the next couple of weeks.
I have several short story outlines from what I call the Journey sessions and the Zombie Command sessions. The almost completed Zombie Hunter will be finished this year and put aside for Mark and my next horror anthologies. We have decided not to call it the Third Journey but come up with something very clever.
I hope to see everybody at Mark and I next appearance. Until then. Stay Scared.
I can't believe how close we are to the release date of The Second Journey Into The Unknown by Mark Cusco Ailes and Derek Ailes. Work will continue this week on the final stories for our latest horror anthology. There has been great feedback from those who got a chance to preview some of the finished stories this week. Mark and I had a lot of people on the edge of their seats. That is definitely the type of response horror writers want from their readers. I, myself, wrote some of the best horror short stories I have ever written for this release. I can't wait for everybody else to have a chance to read them. Everybody will have to wait until October.
Don't forget about our upcoming book signing. Here's the details for those that haven't seen them yet.
Mark Cusco Ailes and Derek Ailes (me) will be attending this book fair selling and signing all of our novels. Please consider attending this exciting IWC event next Saturday which takes place adjacent to the Chesterton European Market! Chesterton, IN In conjunction with the Westchester Public Library’s Summer Reading Program Finale, “Family Fiesta—Celebrating Mexican Culture,” the Indiana Writers’ Consortium (IWC) will host a local author signing at Thomas Centennial Park on Saturday, July 26th, from 10 AM until 2 PM. The event will include local IWC author signings, a table with information about IWC events and area writers’ groups, a family-friendly reading, and children’s activities.
I hope it doesn't rain Saturday. Rain is in the forecast and it is an outside venue. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Now let us look ahead at 2015. My next collection of horror short stories will be: Musings From A Demented Mind. If you thought Zombie Command was frightening then you are in for a scarey ride. The short story "Zombie Hunter" will finally be released in this anthology. I started working on it for "Zombie Command", but couldn't get it finished in time. Because of its current length, it's not finished yet, it was too long for "The Second Journey Into The Unknown". I have several outlines stored in my demented brain that I want to use for this collection. While at work, thoughts pop in my head that make me say that would make a perfect horror story.
This week, I'm redesigning my brother's, Mark Cusco Ailes, official weebly website. I have some exciting goodies in store for his website. I will let everybody know when I have the website completed.
Let's get back to "The Second Journey". I have two more stories to complete and then all that is left is the editing, editing, editing, and yes more editing. The edits are almost completed for Mark's stories. I will be working on the cover design in the next two weeks and will debut the cover to the world in August.
If you are interested in any of my or Mark Cusco Ailes books, you can purchase them on Amazon.com. I would love to be the next indie author to make it to the bestsellers list. Help me make that goal. I guess that's a shameless plug, but hell, I might as well try.
Until next time

Another awesome week of writing ahead of me. First off, I want to thank the IWC (Indiana Writers Consortium) http://indianawritersconsortium.org for a great meet and greet with fellow Indiana authors in Hammond, Indiana yesterday. My brother, Mark Cusco Ailes, and I learned about several writing opportunities for our careers moving forward into the rest of 2014 and beyond.
We have a upcoming book signing in Chesterton, Indiana at Thomas Centennial Park along Broadway in downtown area. This is on July 26th a Saturday and is from 10-2. If you are in the area, stop by and purchase one of my or Mark's novels.
I started working on the short story "Lake Shore Dive" about a mega sinkhole that opens up in Chicago destroying landmarks around Lake Shore Drive. I'm having fun writing that one. All the first drafts will be finished for "The Second Journey Into the Unknown" some time in August. The book will be available some time in October just in time for all of our November book signing appearances. I will then have the short story "Claws" to write. The second Karena story will make its appearance in a 2015 book project.
If you haven't purchased the first "Journey Into the Unknown", you can purchase it on Amazon.com http://amzn.com/1490924302 or the Amazon UK http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1490924302
I'm only a few weeks away from meeting Robert Englund, Traci Lords, and Lance Henriksen at the Flashback Weekend in Chicago. I had fun recently meeting Doug Bradley (Pinhead of Hellraiser) a couple weeks back. My brother still hasn't gotten over meeting Tara Reid.
I saw Riffrax presentation of Sharknado last Thursday. I laughed my ass off. Very funny stuff and it wasn't even on TBS. They are doing the 1998 Godzilla with Matthew Broderick in August. I will be attending that one. That movie deserves to be made fun of.
I will keep everybody updated on my future book appearances. I have a huge day of writing ahead of me tomorrow. Maybe I'll finish "Lake Shore Dive". I believe that would make an excellent SYFY channel movie. Asylum contact me now for a script.
Until next time
