Mark Cusco Ailes and I are back from our first stop on the Ailes Brothers of Terror of Book Tour. We sold a lot of books and autograph photos today. I videotaped two videos at the event advertising all our novels. Both of our videos are below. Watch and enjoy.
My brother and I will be recording several more videos in the next few weeks. We will be video taping a tour through our horror studio next.
All the photos from the book signing are at the end of this blog. Our next stop is the Hammond Public Library on May 30.
While trying to figure out how to end the short story "Travelers", I wrote a short story called "Buzz Kill" based on the truck that was carrying the 450 bee hives on I-5 and crashed sending millions of bees in a frenzy. I thought it would be the perfect direction to write a short story from my outline I had came up with during the Zombie Command sessions.
Well that's all the news I have for now.
Until next time
It's only two days away from Mark Cusco Ailes and my next book signing at Woodland Park in Portage, Indiana. Annabelle, the evil possessed doll, arrived last week and she is ready to tour with us on our upcoming book tour. Today, we met with the head of the South Haven Public library and we are set to sell and sign all of our novels there on July 18.
Work has stalled on the short story "Travelers" while I work out possible ways of ending the story. This one is going to be one of my longer short stories, possibly longer than Zombie Command. I want this story to have the perfect surprise ending. I have the rest of the story mapped out, but I'm stuck on the scene I'm currently working on. I may put it aside for a couple of days and work on another short story and then come back and finish it. The story deals with time travel, Area 51, and I introduce a couple of FBI agents into the story who are a cross between agents from X-files, Men In Black & Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. I don't think James Coon had any idea what the direction of his final story he worked on before he died would take. I believe he would have been impressed.
Once I'm done with that story, I'm going to work on his "Sirens From Lake Station" short story and do some ghostwriting on it. There are two other short stories he wrote that I will work on plus several other stories based on the conversations I had with him over the years. I also have an alien invasion story and I have a comedic one which will answer the debate: which comic book universe is better; DC or Marvel? Musings From a Demented Mind will be a must have read for all fans of comics, horror and science fiction. I'm still planning on working on Claws Vs Mecha Cat for it. After doing book signings, my enthusiasm for writing increases. Most likely next week, I'll be back on another writing spree. When all my shows go in repeats, I begin to crack out great stories at a fast pace. The first draft of the book should be done by July.
I also have other book projects planned and my brother will make an official announcement on June 1 for a secret project he's involved in. What it's about, I'm currently not allowed to say.
Keep checking back for updates.
Until next time
Annablle, the evil possessed doll & Derek Ailes (Zombie Command: A Horror Anthology & Journey Into the Unknown)
Welcome back fellow horror readers.
Annabelle is joining the Ailes Brothers of Terror on our upcoming book tour. She is based on the doll "Annabelle" from the horror movie and she should be arriving at our horror studio this Tuesday. Mark and I will be posting pictures of Annabelle this week. On April 26 at Woodland Park in Portage, Indiana will be our first book signing of 2015. Stop on by and buy a book.
The James Coon eBook project has now become "Musings Into the Demented Mind". I'm taking all the stories I've written for Musings and all the ones I have and will be writing for the James Coon project and combining them into one anthology. This way, I can have everything in one paperback anthology by September.
Travelers is the latest short story I'm working on. The first part was written by James Coon before he died. I took what he had and am writing an excellent science fiction story about a family that is sent back in time to 2015 where they encounter a senior citizen who helps them with their mission to steal a top secret spacecraft from Area 51. I'm having a lot of fun with this story and am learning a lot about time travel. Did you know scientists are on the verge of making time travel possible? That's a scary thought to think about. I wouldn't want that power in the government's or anyone's hands.
Next week, I'm hoping to have another short story posted on Shortfictionbreak.com. It will be one of the stories I've written based on the talks with James Coon. I will also post that story here on my website under the free stories tab. You can read some of my short stories for free right after you read this blog. One on there is from the upcoming "Musings" anthology and the other ones are a couple of my favorites from my other anthologies. Enjoy them.
It's time for me to get back to writing.
Until next time
This has been a very troubling and interesting week since my friend James Coon passed away last Friday. I met with his sister and niece yesterday to answer some of the many questions that they had about JC's very private life. I started working on a collection of short stories based upon the numerous conversations I had with JC over the years. I finished two short stories and have several outlines written out. His family is going to find his notebook that had his notes so I can write his story "Sirens" plus finish the story he was working on the week he passed. The collection entitled "James Coon" will be released as an ebook this summer, hopefully June, and all the stories will be published in my next horror short story anthology: Musings From A Demented Mind. As I'm working on the stories, I hope that some of the names of the people he mentioned to me over the years pop into my brain so I can help his family track down some of his friends over the years. I have over fifteen years of conversations and stories to reflect on.
My brother talked to Barnes & Noble in Valparaiso, Indiana today and found out that not only is there a book fair in May, there will be one in June. That will be two times we will be setting up at Barnes & Noble this year. The rest of my brother's books will finally be released on Nook in April and May. In October there is going to be a gigantic book conference with a large book fair with over thirty authors in Merrillville, Indiana. This time the book fair is open to the public and there will be radio advertising and more. Last year, Mark and I sold a lot of books and the book fair was only open to the attendees of the conference. Musings From A Demented Mind will be available and hopefully Beast Within will be finished in time as well.
The first chapter of Shelana's Quest will be available on shortfictionbreak.com around the second week of April. The story will be featured in installments until its climatic conclusion and it will also be included as a bonus story for Musings of A Demented Mind. I have four stories finished so far for the collection. I also need to finish Twisted Twins. After all the James Coons stories are finished, I will write Claws vs Mecha Cat. This horror anthology will include some of my best work to date.
My brother's new website http://markcuscoailes.weebly.com will be revamped in the next couple of weeks and I will be the moderator since Mark is deeply engrossed in writing his next novel. His website will change to a new domain similar to mine in a few weeks. I also made new business cards to pass out at my book signings this year. The photo is below this blog post.
Keep track of all my news and new content that will be posted on my official website every week. You can also join my mailing list via the box located on all my pages of my website.
